Mathias Sercu (°1970) is an actor and screenwriter.

Mathias began his career as an actor but also found the joy in writing theatre pieces. He wrote 9 pieces in total, and reworked the scenario of a Belgian series Halleluja!.

His biggest breakthrough as a screenwriter however came in 2014 when he wrote and co-directed the television series Marsman, in collaboration with Eshref Reybrouck.
The series got a lot of national and international attention. In Belgium, Mathias won the first Screenplay Award for a Television series, elected by the screenwriters guild, the Diversity Trophy and awards for Best Drama and Best Screenplay.
Marsman won the Prix Italia for best TV drama and was nominated for the Prix Europe, the Festival Tous Ecrans and the Potsdam International Film Festival. Mathias also got the Prix Mitrani, a special jury award at the FIPA. At this festival the series also received the FIPA d’Or for Best Actor and was nominated as Best Series.

Mathias is now ready to take his talent to the next level and is writing his first feature film which he will again co-direct with Eshref Reybrouck.
